Showing good fighting spirit, Orissa held host Bihar to a draw on the last day of their three-day East Zone Ranji Trophy match at Moin-ul-Haq Stadium in Patna today. Bihar, however, collected five points by virtue of taking first innings lead, while Orissa settled with three points.
Opting to bat, Orissa rode on a half-century each by debutant Ramesh Chandok and captain Paramjit Singh to compile a healthy total of 269. In reply, Bihar declared at nine for 328 to take a first-innings lead of 59 runs. Milan Dutta sccored a century on debut for Bihar, while Paramjit Singh emerged as the most successful Orissa bowler, taking five wickets for 63 runs.
In their second innings, Orissa were bowled out for 214 with debutant Asjit Jayaprakasham and Somnath Sahu narrowly missing respective half-century. Needing 156 runs for victory, Bihar were nine for two wickets when stumps were drawn on the final day.
Rabi Narayan Panda and Harmohan Praharaj retured to the Orissa team, while fast bowler Randhir Singh made first-class debut for Bihar, ending his short association with Orissa.
